How to transport a Twizy?

A question that arises quite often about the Twizy is that of its transport when buying a second-hand, or even more rarely to take it on vacation.

Here are some solutions.

The Twizy having only little autonomy, it is difficult to imagine doing several hundred kilometers with it (although ... but that's another story) and it must therefore be transported. Here is an analysis of what the Twizy users of the group Twizy Fans Francophones on Facebook have used as means.

IN ALL CASES THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE SECURELY LOCKED WITH THE HANDBRAKE ON!

The professional transporter:

Prices vary depending on the mileage and the company chosen: 700 € for 800 km, 500 € for 500 km ... you have to compete and compare the quotes and what they include. Check the professionalism of the transporter (real existence, seniority, insurance ...) and his evaluations which must be very positive.

In my opinion, beware of platforms allowing you to receive several quotes with a reverse auction system...

The rental of a van:

To be rent between 100 and 200 € plus mileage, diesel and tolls, many vans are able to contain and transport a Twizy: Renault Master, Peugeot Expert, Fiat Ducato, Mercedes Sprinter ... They don't need specific license. .

Keep in mind the overall dimensions of the Twizy
Length: 2338 mm
width: 1234 mm
Height: 1454 mm
Empty weight: 445 kg
and of course compare them with those inside the chosen van!

You have to remove the windows to get out without too many problems or with some contortions ...
You also have to think about the ramps to bring the Twizy up into the van (see below)

Renting a car transporter:

Can be hired for about 230 € per day. The advantage is that the truck is equipped for this, with ramps and winch.

Renting a trailer:

They can be hired for around 100 € per day. It assumes to have a coupling and must not exceed a GVWR load of 750 kg (therefore trailer + Twizy) to be able to be used with a normal license.
Here too it is necessary to check its interior dimensions and compare them with those of the Twizy (see above)
The trailer must be coupled when loading the Twizy.

Some indications concerning the ramps:

2 ramps 2m long, capable of supporting the passage of the Twizy (450 kg plus the driver) are necessary to make it climb in a van or on a trailer. They can be found in some equipment rental stores around 20€. With this length it seems that there is no friction and the slope is not too steep.
Some have used bastaings of this length but of course you have to be sure that they are strong enough.

Tip: with luck, we can use the loading dock of a comprehensive company instead of ramps (loading and unloading so it must be organized!)
