Mobilize, a brand of the Renault group, has just informed the public that its Duo electric quadricycle, as well as its Bento utility version, will be presented at the Paris Motor Show, and will be available to order from October 14, 2024, on the Mobilize stand and in the Renault network.
Rates
The announced autonomy for the 2 versions is 161 km according to the WMTC standard, which is a good surprise and would guarantee at least 100 km in winter. The 2 versions are equipped as standard with a driver's airbag, a driver's seat belt with force limiter, a heated windshield, manual ventilation, airtight elytron doors equipped with semi-opening tinted windows and comfort seats with "premium" upholstery. The heated driver's seat and the Bluetooth kit are standard on the 80 version but optional on the 45 version. Air conditioning, reversing radar and the Mode 3 Type 2 socket are optional. The price of the options has not been communicated.
The Mobilize Bento 80 is available from €10,000 excluding VAT, after deduction of the €900 ecological bonus. According to Mobilize, it is the only quadricycle approved as a utility vehicle in its category in France, and as such can benefit from recoverable VAT. It must be driven with a license, is limited to 80 km/h and has a range of 149 km. It has a closed and convertible 649-litre box in place of the passenger seat.
Competitors
These prices position the Duo in a rather interesting way relative to its competition. It should be noted first that none of its competitors have an airbag.
In the category of quadricycles without a license (L6e) the Duo 45 at €9,090 is certainly much more expensive than its big rival the basic Citroën Ami sold for €7,090, but offers significantly more safety and autonomy than the latter which only has 75 km of autonomy. The Silence S04 L6e is at €11,990 with a range of 75 km. The Ligier Myli electric is at €12,099 with 63 km of autonomy and the Microlino 45 Lite is at €17,990 for 95 km of autonomy.
In the category of quadricycles with license (L7e), the main competitors of the Duo 80 at €11,600 are the L7e version of the Silence S04 (€14,490 for 75 km of autonomy or €17,140 for 149 km), the Ligier Myli L7e 75 km/h (€18,499 for 179 km of autonomy) and the Microlino (€19,990 for 228 km of autonomy).
Features
The marketed version of the Mobilize Duo takes up the main principles that made the Renault Twizy and is no different from the prototype that was presented in 2022, neither in look nor in dimensions with its 2.43 m long and 1.30 m wide.
Note a turning radius of 6.30 m even smaller than that of the Twizy (6.80 m) or the Citroën Ami (7.20 m) and therefore even more agility than its ancestor or its direct rival. In order to reduce production costs, the 10.3 kWh NMC battery (useful capacity) corresponds to a module of the battery pack of the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, and the 48V electric motor comes from the mild hybrid advanced powertrain of Renault Austral.
Too late ?
Mobilize Duo and Bento are therefore realistic and interesting proposals, real replacements for the Renault Twizy from which they draw much inspiration while improving it quite significantly. One can legitimately wonder if they are not arriving too late, and why Renault, which was a real pioneer in this area with the Twizy released in 2012, did not manage to develop it earlier, disappointing many of its fans, and now finds itself lagging behind Citroën.
